5 ways to keep your TikTok account safe

5 ways to keep your TikTok account safe

As a short video platform favored by many, TikTok is a place for users to express creativity. However, in this modern era, users must be smart to maintain account security.

Therefore, here are some steps to improve security on TikTok according to Donny Eryastha as Head of Public Policy for Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines:

1. Make the account private

Users can allow or deny follower requests as well as limit the content that users upload to their followers only.

To do this, users can go to My tab > Privacy and Settings then in the Privacy and Security section, change the account to Private Account
As a tip, it is better for users not to include personal information in their profile because that information will be seen by all other users even if they have activated a personal account.

2. Perform filtering

By enabling Restricted Mode, users can limit the display of content that may not suit all audiences. Users also have control over user accounts by filtering who can duet, who can leave comments, who can view content and some videos, and users can also delete comments uploaded in the user's videos.

To do this, users simply need to check their preferences in the Privacy and Security menu

3. Reporting a violation
If a user finds something that violates the Terms of Service, the user can report it easily so the TikTok Moderation team can review it and take appropriate action.

Users can report videos, other users or comments directly from the app. TikTok itself has a dedicated moderation team on duty 24 hours a day to sort out inappropriate videos and content.

4. Adopt a healthy digital lifestyle

Giving a time limit in consuming the internet is sometimes very useful. By enabling the Screen Time Management feature, TikTok can remind users when to stop and return to the real world.

Users can use the Digital Wellbeing menu in the Privacy and Settings section to set how much time they want to spend on TikTok. When the time is up, the user account will be logged out automatically.

5. Use strong passwords

Users should use strong passwords for any online accounts. Protect passwords from third party sites and make sure to use different passwords for different services

In the TikTok application, users can report and ask for help if the user finds anything suspicious that indicates the user's account may have been hacked.
