News - Man United vs. Crystal Palace result, highlights and analysis as Martial, Sancho and Rashford star for Red Devils

Manchester United produced their most impressive performance of pre-season with a 3-1 defeat of Crystal Palace at the MCG in Melbourne,  Australia on Tuesday.

The attacking trio of Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho all got on the scoresheet as Erik ten Hag's side thrilled going forward, albeit while looking shaky defensively.

Martial - whose career at United looked in doubt after being loaned to Sevilla last season - opened the scoring with a wonderful finish following a delightful cross from Diego Dalot.

Despite Palace creating a couple of half-chances on the break, United dominated the half but didn't get the second goal until after the break.

United scored a wonderful team goal which saw Rashford side-foot into an empty net after Donny van de Beek, Martial and Sancho completely sliced open the Palace defence.

Only 10 minutes later, it was three, as Martial played Sancho through on goal, with the English winger finishing clinically after dummying the goalkeeper.

After teams changed most of the players on the field, Palace got more involved in the game, with Joel Ward heading a consolation goal for Patrick Vieira's team, while defender Will Fish was sent off for United late on.

Is Anthony Martial back?

Martial's career at United looked all but over last season, after he was loaned to Sevilla and struggled to have an impact.

But the talented French attacker appears to have a new lease of life under Ten Hag, with the attacking style of play appearing to suit him.

Martial has scored in all three United pre-season matches with the 26-year-old thriving in an attack that features extensive support from full-backs and central midfielders.

It will be interesting to see where Martial fits in at United, with Cristiano Ronaldo still in the picture at Old Trafford despite rumours of a move away.

Luke Shaw sent a message by Ten Hag

With Ten Hag selecting what appeared to be his best XI with players that were available, it was interesting to see new signing Tyrell Malacia selected at left-back.

The 22-year-old Dutchman put in another exceptional performance in the position, looking adept both attacking and defensively.

Malacia showcased his ability with a brilliant pass to fellow full-back Dalot to help set up the opening goal.

It's going to be a tough fight for United's left-back role with both Luke Shaw and Alex Telles also competing for the position.
